Goals for 2008 - 2009

More representation

One of the goals for the WSA is to have at least 125 people at our meetings. We had a great start of the semester with over 90 people at our first meeting, but we can do better. There are over 250 student organizations on campus and nine different colleges so I know we can do it! It is very important that we have as many members as possible from as many different organizations as possible because we are representing over 20,000 students. The more diverse our senate, the better we will do at being the voice for the students.

We Resolve...

Another goal is to increase the amount of resolutions we pass. One of the best ways to make change on campus is to have over 20,000 student voices behind an idea. Some resolutions are controversial, while others can get approved by the senate immediately. No matter what the topic is, if something needs to be changed on campus, then we should do it! It is the perfect way to make sure your voice is heard.

Giving back

We will also be doing more philanthropy work. It is very important that we give back to the community that has given us so much. One way in which we will be doing this is by participating in the United Way campaign on campus. We are not necessarily asking students to donate money of their own, but to try and come up with ways in which they can help. We are going to be volunteering at one of the 43 agencies effected by the United Way. Also, we are going to camp out at the flagpoles where we will try and collect donations for United Way. It would be great it other organizations wanted to volunteer or put on their own events. We understand that students are very busy and it is hard to create something new, that is why it may work to incorporate fundraising into something you already do. For example, the Campus Activities Board will be donating a portion of each dollar they receive at the Miller Movie on October 29th. How wonderful! We will also be putting on the Polar Plunge next February to jump into the Goldsworth Valley Pond and raise money for the Special Olympics.

Endless (funding) possibilities...

Another goal of the WSA Cabinet is to make sure every student organization knows about the Allocation Committee and it's funding possibilities. Requesting money from the Allocations Committee is a great way to put on an incredible event. The Allocations Committee works very hard at making sure the funding process is fair and everyone is treated equally. With the new Student Assessment Fee increase, we are able to help more organizations put on events. This is going to be a great year for campus!

Working together

Lastly, we are working very hard at collaborating with other organizations on campus. We are working with other student organizations on campus and the United States Student Association in trying to get as many students registered to vote as possible. Also, we are working with the Graduate Student Advisory Committee to host a forum with Dr. Dunn. Later this semester we will be bringing in a speaker to bring students and the community together, as well as raise funds for the Sangren renovation. We are also partnering with the Residence Hall Association and the Campus Activities Board to put on some great events.
